Due to all the misinformation spread by the press, a lot of people in the community seem to believe that the recently announced Mi 6X is going to be made into an Android One phone, the Mi A2 and so it’s only natural to call the Mi 6X by that moniker and refer to them as one.

The problem is, such model does not exist. This idea is based on a chain of assumptions, without any remarkable rumours or confirmation from Xiaomi.

The Mi A1 was based on the Mi 5X, their dimensions and most of the hardware are the same but the software is completely different and the phones aren’t compatible with each other.

Running one model’s software on the other requires porting custom development.

That’s it, that’s the whole story of the Mi 5X and the Mi A1, there’s nothing more to it or their connection. The sole fact that the Mi A1 was based on the Mi 5X makes the press think that a successor to the 5X automatically means a successor to the A1, which is none other than the Mi 6X running stock Android, so we should already call the Mi 6X the Mi A2.

So far Xiaomi hasn’t said anything about a successor to the A1 being in the works and there have been no remarkable rumours on the successor coming either.

There is no established connection between these two series and they do not depend on each other. It’s possible that a second Android One phone is coming and it might be based on the Mi 6X but so far nothing confirmed that this is going to happen.

This recent article on XDA does shine some light on the matter and suggests this scenario, but it was posted way after people started calling the Mi 6X the Mi A2, which makes the point of this post stand.

I wrote this post to stop misinformation spreading further and upend the misconceptions people had about the Mi A2 and the Mi 6X.

Finally someone said it. There are already so many videos on YouTube comparing phones with the “Mi A2” using the 6X and that makes me furious.

Been saying this for months already on various forums. Blame the clueless Indian “tech media” and their endless inane chatter and uneducated gusses.

This has also been picked up by the Spanish media and they are announcing it like it is confirmed.

They don’t even mention it is based on rumors. It’s not like gizmochina have published stuff in the past that was completely false or anything.

21.02.2020 – Even cranking up the pressure by running advanced 3D games fails to make the Mi A2 seriously sweat. However, the missing feature here is the absence of storage expansion. And Xiaomi is offering this baby under 20, price bracket — very impressive! Perhaps with a similarly sized battery, Xiaomi could have cranked the screen brightness up a little. All told, the Mi A2 display is capable, if not exceptional.

Hmm strange, one week ago I found news that was confirming that such phone as A2 will not be released. With every update it brings some new bugs and issues.

Is that really a messup that should upset you?

I had this happen before when I had an S5 and I could recover my messages by making a call to mobile network provider. Next day I got an envelope with all my messages in the last year printed out.

But still, I have the default messaging app and after updating my A1 no messages were missing. Every single message was kept. Nobody’s saying it won’t exist.

We’re saying it does not currently exist. It may or may not be a mi 6x rebrand – and we won’t until it is announced.

The Mi A2 currently does not exist. Unless you can go out right now and buy it, it does publically not exist. I’m pretty sure it’ll be released.

Maybe it’ll be called the Mi A2, maybe the Mi A1 – who knows until something is officially announced? Fact is, people spreading misinformation about something that currently does not exist is the complete opposite of helpful, and only confuses people.

Proof is when we have an actual device in working conditions or official confirmation. That’s Geekbuying’s made up listing. They’re known for those, along with many other things that make them a very shitty reseller.

Would it be fine to go ahead and buy a Mi A1 now, then? Thanks for your response. Would that be a better option?

Or would you suggest looking at different phones entirely? Which are the better models you’re thinking of? You should import it from China, that fixes the price but the Redmi Note 5 would be a much much better choice, it’s better in every department processor, camera, screen, etc.

I’m still considering it, but the security of a warrenty if I buy from Amazon UK is appealing. I love mine, I picked it up cos my S7 battery died and it wasn’t worth replacing it with six months left on my contract.

A1 is most likely. It is not exactly a google supported device Everything there is made up.

I’d be upgrading from a Moto G3. That price is too high and there are better models out there.
