Solution 6 worked for me. Both camera and gallery apps were not working. Tried clearing cache for both and restart, problem still persists.
Cleared cache and data files for gallery app and restarted the device, problem solved! Mine is a more difficult problem it seems.
I usually just press powerbutton and restart; sometime to no avail of it will restart without problems. Problem occurs irregularly.

Yesterday my flashlight stopped working. When I installed an app to operate the flashlight thinking it was an Oreo problem, the app told me that my camera has stopped working.
I thought I would have to reinstall Oreo and wipe out everything and start over again. I took advice about the flashlight, turned it on then off, closed app and tried the camera, started working.

Number 4 worked for me. I just updated my LG V20 with an android system update and camera went haywire. I used solution 3 and 4 and it returned my camera to working order.

None of the solutions worked for my phone. This is the second time ive had this issue. The first time it just fixed itself woth the hour or so.

For those who still are facing the abrupt camera crash after taking a photo, it is likely a permission issue owner and group messed up on DCIM folder on the internal SD card.
If you need root access to change permissions, etc of folders within DCIM, switch to root su commandif your device is rooted.
Or else figure out some other way to get the permissions to move them. Check it with ls -l output. Keep an eye on logcat output. If it shows, permission denied as above, the fix it like below.
